Canon, in partnership with leading broadcast and professional video solution provider CVP, has announced its Stories in Motion competition, which is inviting young filmmakers to submit their best creative short films.
Calling all filmmakers!
Open to those aged 18-25, it’s an outstanding opportunity to win a fabulous series of prizes, including a Canon EOS C70 and RF 24-70 f/2.8 L lens, plus the experience of shadowing an award-winning filmmaker.
There are three categories on offer – Music Video, Documentary and Scripted Short – and a maximum of one film can be entered into each. These will be adjudicated on by a top-quality judging panel, consisting of a wide cross-section of industry experts, who will be assessing qualities such as originality, creativity, cinematography and post-production skills.
Representing CVP is Technical Marketing Manager Jake Ratcliffe, and he’s joined by Canon Ambassador, cinematographer and photographer, Elisa Iannacone, Canon Ambassador, cinematographer and filmmaker Tania Freimuth and award-winning filmmaker, editor and colourist, Ollie Kenchington.

Five entries will be shortlisted per category, from which one winner will be selected, with the three that come out on top then going on to battle it out to be named overall grand prize winner. The lucky individual who comes out on top walks away with a Canon EOS C70 and RF 24-70 f/2.8 L lens, plus the opportunity to shadow one of the judges of their choice for a day. Meanwhile each of the shortlisted entries wins a £200 voucher to spend at CVP, with each category winner picking up a further CVP voucher worth £500.

“We’re passionate about supporting the next generation of filmmakers,” says Canon’s UK and Ireland Marketing Director Neale Conroy, “and Stories in Motion is a great platform for storytellers to showcase their work to an industry-leading judging panel. With the chance to experience a day’s mentorship with one of the judges, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for those looking to make their way into the industry, while also providing the chance to learn and grow. We can’t wait to see all the entries.”
The competition is open for entries now and closes on March 31, 2023. The shortlist results will be announced on 6th April 6. Watch the video below and head here for more information on the entry process and technical requirements.
