THE CREATIVE BRIEF for this shot was two words: pink & female empowerment – ok, maybe three words! This then became an editorial series entitled The Angels, and there were four models featured in this in total, the one featured here being Karina, with hair by Eden Spark and make-up by Georgina Weatherburn. The location we used was a new cocktail bar in Norwich called Cecilias, which has a pink theme, is full of flowers and screams femininity. I wanted to take advantage of the surroundings and to incorporate the soft colours as much as possible. We were lucky to have had natural sunlight streaming through the windows and I shot with my Canon EOS 5D Mark II and supplemented the natural light with my Interfit lights to create a soft ‘glowy’ feel. You can see more of the series on my website.

I loved all the pink and pastel colours here and the way the model’s hair colour is echoed in the foliage behind her. I’m also impressed by the way her dress stands out with its colour and seems to make the whole shot blend so beautifully. The way she’s holding the flowers above her head is another nice touch and, for me, this completes the shot.
