Our gorgeous black and white cover shot from analogue and vintage camera specialist Dave Shrimpton marks the fact that we’re celebrating all things silver halide with a special ten-page section in our latest issue, and it’s truly remarkable how a process many had considered bound for the museum has surged back over the past few years. We’re also catching up with rock star photographer Andy Summers, whose passion for his art is beyond doubt, with a major retrospective just opening at the Leitz Museum in Wetzlar, Germany.

Two major new series also kick off in this issue, as we begin a major six-part guide, in association with Sennheiser and CVP, that talks professionals through how to achieve outstanding audio content in their video productions. Our second exciting new regular feature is in association with MPB, and we’re offering readers of Professional Photo the opportunity to tap into this used kit specialist’s awesomely well-stocked warehouse full of gear to get hands on with some dream kit, whether that be an alternative format or, as in this inaugural feature, with a classic high-spec rangefinder camera, the Leica M10.

We’re also heading to a hide to test out the latest high speed, high performing new Fujifilm X-H2S, Lisa Devlin is sharing tips on how to move into luxe weddings and Paul Wilkinson is telling us how he shot his award-winning study of a sleepy puppy, where all is not quite what it seems. As always, we’ve got a veritable smorgasbord of stories to offer, so feel free to dive in and have a look around!

Extra content in the Digital Edition includes:

  • 1 extra spread on Portfolio (Andy Summers)
  • 1 extra spread on Project (Red Fox)
  • Extra 4-page Feature (Affinity Spotlight on Retouching)

This issue can also be purchased for  £3.99 as a Digital Edition here or on Kindle Devices  for £3.99 and bought and subscribed to on Android and Apple devices such as Iphone and Ipad on the App Store.

Totally in tune

Andy Summers is celebrated for his role as guitarist in The Police, one of the greatest rock bands of all time, but he’s equally passionate about his photography and his major retrospective has just opened at the Leitz Museum in Germany. We caught up with him to find out a little more about how his visual creativity ties in with his musical journey.

Friend or Foe

There are few wild animals that manage to polarise opinion quite as much as the red fox, which is loved and cherished by many, while also being relentlessly hunted and persecuted by others. A new book aims to explore the enigma, and we’ve caught up with some of those who have been involved in pulling this thought-provoking new project together.

Clear the Crowds

If you’re out and about shooting stock, do you sometimes find it impossible to get that nice clear view of landmark settings that you require if you’re looking to be making sales? Matty Graham uses a little Affinity Photo trickery to show how it can be possible to have the place to yourself, and you can view his real time video walkthrough here.

My Name is Bond

A gorgeous image of a seemingly sleepy puppy, shot for the Hearing Dogs charity, won our columnist Paul Wilkinson the title of Pet Photographer of the Year from the MPA, and he tells us the full story behind the shot and how this happy association first began.

Fully Focussed

Cinema lens development has come on remarkably over the past decade, and that’s been instrumental in opening up fresh doors for hybrid photographer/filmmakers, who can for the time consider using autofocus to help them to achieve pin-sharp footage on a run ‘n gun set-up. Click here to watch the CVP review of the remarkable DZOFilm Pictor 20-55mm and 50-125mm T2.8 Zooms.

Back from the Dead

Film was supposed to have been well and truly finished off by the rise of digital technology but, remarkably, it’s refused to go away and now many professionals are amongst those who are helping silver halide to make a comeback of epic proportions. We take a look at the emerging scene, from where to source kit through to some of the new labs that have sprung up to cater for the demand.

The Pro Guide to Outstanding Audio

Our major new series, sponsored by Sennheiser and CVP, kicks off in this issue, and Rick Bronks begins with a look at the fundamentals you need to know, ranging from a run through of the main mic types through to what is meant by pickup patterns. Click through here to view Part One and to watch Rick’s accompanying video.

We’re continuing our Nikon-sponsored series where we’re showcasing professional photographers who are building on green credentials, and this month we’re catching up with conservation biologist and wildlife photographer Lara Jackson.

Second Time Around

Our new series in association with second hand kit specialist MPB gives professionals the opportunity to try out kit of their choice from the company’s giant Brighton warehouse. Portrait specialist Catherine O’Donnell starts the ball rolling by setting up a shoot with the fabulous Leica M10 rangefinder. Let us know if there is any particular piece of kit you fancy trying out by emailing:
