We drop in on Fixation’s new repair facility at WEX’s Manchester store, which is designed to offer more options to professional photographers based in the north of the country.
Working professionals in and around Manchester can now call on the services of Fixation’s camera repair experts, thanks to the new facility, the company’s first outside of the capital, that’s been opened in the Manchester branch of WEX Photo Video. Offering a wide range of services, including sensor cleans and advice on repairs, the outlet also acts as a drop-off and collection point for more advanced and complicated jobs that might need to be handled by Fixation’s London workshop.
Fixation Manchester opened in July and launched in style by offering 100 free sensor cleans to cater for the high demand of professional photographers based around the city. Vicky Lees, service adviser at the branch, says the demand for repair services in the area is increasing; “It’s actually quite a vibrant market and there are lots a big studios in the area and plenty of professional photographers, so it’s great that we can offer pros these services on their doorstep.”
Along with full camera cleaning services and maintenance to lenses (changing mounting rubbers for example), Fixation also offers a variety of other in-house services, while professionals who might be without their kit while a repair is carried out can simply walk across to the adjacent rental desk and source a stop-gap replacement. “You can hire kit on the spot to get you through,” says Vicky, “and if your repair takes longer than five days Fixation will cover the cost for the rest of the rental period that’s required.”
Perhaps best of all though, the Fixation Manchester hub means that photographers have a wealth of knowledge and advice that they can tap into simply by walking into the store, which is situated on the Downing Street Industrial Estate. With experts on hand to help diagnose issues with equipment and offer the best possible solutions, professionals have an extra safety net to make sure they won’t be turning up on a paid job with misfiring kit. The store is also running open days where professionals can drop in and check out new gear plus training sessions should you wish to update your skills or learn new ones. Keep an eye on the website for details of upcoming events.
