SAMYANG PRESENTS ITS FIRST ZOOM
SAMYANG IS CELEBRATING the 50th year since its foundation and is marking the occasion with its first ever zoom model, the AF 24-70mm f/2.8 FE, which is designed for E mount APS-C and full frame mirrorless cameras.
Perhaps not surprisingly, given that the company is as celebrated for its cinema lenses as it is for optics produced for still photographers, the new zoom is designed to be the ultimate hybrid product.
Key features are its fast f/2.8 aperture throughout the entire zoom range and its optical design of 17 elements in 14 groups to deliver excellent sharpness and contrast in all areas of the image. Excellent bokeh is said to be delivered thanks to the 9-blade diaphragm that’s employed, while Samyang’s Linear STM (Stepping Motor) delivers quiet and accurate AF. The lens can also focus down to just 35cm for close-up work, while weather sealing ensures that it will carry on performing even if a photographer is working in light rain, snow and dust.
For those shooting video the key features are the fact that it’s par-focal, so focus is maintained on the subject during zooming, while the torque of the focus ring is matched closely to that of a dedicated manual focus lens when the user is shooting video in manual mode. There will also be a separate cine kit available to accompany the lens, consisting of focus gearing, a follow focus and tripod mount.
Exclusively distributed in the UK by Holdan, the lens is expected to be available from this month and will retail for £828.
