Mental health issues are thankfully much more out in the open these days, with the realisation that much more openness and understanding is required to enable people to speak out about their issues. Tying into this, photographic duo Luke & Mandy, who are very honest about their own mental health – Luke has been diagnosed with Bipolar Type 1 while Mandy has clinical depression – last year set up the charity TALK, which aims to provide a means for people to have an honest conversation about their condition and to get the help and support they need.

The inaugural Talk Photography Awards have been set up by the pair to create an opportunity to win some incredible prizes while also helping to provide the funds to enable the charity to become established while raising awareness about its aims.

The theme for the Awards is appropriately enough ‘Mental Health,’ but it’s been designed to

be as open as possible, and it can be interpreted in as many ways as the individual wants, from portraiture through to landscape to something more conceptual.

The prize on offer is worth a cool £4500 and comprises a Sony a7R III, a Zeiss Batis 40mm f/2, a Rotolight AEOS LED light and a Dual LED soft carry case. Entry is open until March 22 and it costs £10 for a single entry, £25 for three images, £50 for eight images and £100 for twenty images. The photographs judged by Luke & Mandy to be the best 15 will be on show at Wex Manchester throughout April.
