Fresh from gimbal specialist Zhiyun is the Crane 2S, the latest model in its highly-regarded Crane 2 series of affordable and easy-to-operate three-axis handheld gimbals. The S version builds on that benchmark with greater load and size capacity and more filming flexibility, with new features including a 0.96-inch OLED screen to enable the user to navigate through the entire menu system and switch between modes swiftly.
With highly optimized motors, the Crane 2S is able to handle larger cameras such as the BMPCC 6K, the Panasonic S1H and Canon EOS 1DX Mark II. Meanwhile, the new generation 9th Instune Algorithm that’s onboard is designed to ensure a smooth, reliable performance, even in time-sensitive tasks.
The Crane 2S features the FlexMount System, which is designed to simplify the setup process while at the same time securing the camera with a double safety mechanism. There’s also a quick release mount along with a safety knob on the tilt axis, which allows users to switch to vertical shooting in an instant without the need for an additional accessory installation.
Six gimbal modes in total are provided on the Crane 2S: pan following, locking, following, full-range POV, Vortex mode and Go mode. There are also advanced cinematic effects on board, such as Panorama, Timelapse, Motionlapse and Long Exposure Timelapse. Zhіуun hаѕ also included two UЅВ-С роrtѕ whісh wіll роwеr fоllоw fосuѕ аnd zооm ѕуѕtеmѕ, аѕ wеll аѕ thе аddіtіоn оf multірlе 1/4″ fіttіngѕ, whісh аllоw fоr mоnіtоrѕ, mісѕ, lіghtіng еtс. The Zhiyun Crane2S comes in three versions: Standard at £599, Combo at €699 and a pro version that is yet to be priced.
